Here's everything new and improved in Golden Analytics this week.
New Features
Smart Excel Importer
Excel files are now cleaned automatically on upload. Golden detects and silently fixes common Excel formatting issues — title rows, blank rows and columns, subtotal rows — before data enters the canvas. A toast notification summarizes any changes that were made. For files with more complex structure, an “Analyze with AI” button in the sheet picker lets Claude inspect the workbook and suggest the best import approach.
Collapsible Analysis Sidebar
The left sidebar (sheet list) in the analysis view can now be collapsed to give more canvas space. When collapsed, hovering over the left edge expands it as an overlay without shifting the canvas layout. A toggle button lets you pin it open or closed.
Stepped Color Scales
Color scales with discrete steps now render correctly throughout — in the chart itself, in the color legend, and in tooltips. Tooltip swatches now show the exact gradient color for the hovered data point rather than a flat series color.
Cross-filter on Line Charts
Clicking a date point on a line chart to cross-filter other dashboard charts now works correctly. Previously, date-based cross-filters from line charts crashed target charts with a query error.
Google Sign-in for Workspace Invitees
Users who receive a workspace invitation can now accept it and sign up using Google OAuth — not just email and password.
Improvements
- Replacing a shelf field now keeps its position: When you click a field on the Rows, Columns, or Tooltip shelf and pick a replacement, the new field now stays in the same slot instead of being appended to the end of the shelf.
- Dashboard tab renames now save: Renaming a dashboard sheet tab is now correctly persisted. Previously the rename was lost on the next auto-save.
- Chart thumbnails are now consistent for everyone: Thumbnail previews on the Home page and in the “Add Existing Chart” dialog are now captured at a fixed 1280×720 resolution, so they look the same regardless of your browser window size or which panels are open.
- Trellis synced axes now show negative values: When “Sync axes” is enabled on a trellis chart, panels with negative values no longer clip their bars or lines above the zero line.
- Dashboard filter bar always stays on top: The filter pill at the top of the dashboard was sometimes covered by chart title elements and couldn’t be clicked. It now always renders above all on-canvas content.
- “What are the key insights?” chat question now works: Clicking this default recommended question in the AI chat panel was silently returning an empty response. It now correctly streams insights back.
